Testosterone is an important sex hormone (androgen) in men, that is mostly produced by the testicles. From as early as 25-30 years, a man’s testosterone levels naturally starts to decline by 1-2 % every year. So low testosterone can be a problem.

Testosterone has multiple important functions in the male body:
- It regulates sex drive (libido) and supports your erections
- controls bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass
- plays a role in the production of red bloods
- is vital for making sperm and aiding fertility
- helps maintain your mood, but is also linked with aggression, and self-esteem.

A thyroid function test checks the levels of the hormones made by your thyroid gland, an important hormonal gland in your neck.

This test measures Thyroxine (T4), the main hormone produced by your thyroid, and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), a pituitary gland hormone that controls your thyroid hormonal production. They are mainly used to detect an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) and an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), that can have impact on the body's metabolic control of the heart, muscle and digestive function, brain development and bone maintenance.

Vitamin D is produced naturally when our skin is exposed to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation from the sun. It is also the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide. Around1/4 of the UK population is deficient in vitamin D, rising to around 1/3 in the winter months.

Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and helps with maintain healthy skin and bones. It also plays an important role in your immune system. Vitamin D deficiency is linked to fatigue, bone and muscle pain, as well as getting ill more often than usual.

Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin vital for neurological function and energy production. A lack of vitamin B12 can cause anemia, which is where you don't product enough healthy red blood cells and then can't transport enough oxygen around the body.

Vitamin B12 is naturally found in animal foods, including meats, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy. It is not typically present in plant foods. Deficiency can be quite common.

Total cholesterol test is used to check if your cholesterol is high and estimate your risk for developing heart diseases especially heart attack and diseases associated with blood vessels. High cholesterol or triglyceride levels can increase your risk of heart disease and strokes.

There are no symptoms for high cholesterol so regular checks are recommended.

Triglycerides is a form of fat present in your body that provides energy to your body and stores calories that are not used.

If your triglyceride levels get too high it can increase your risk of heart disease. That’s why your triglyceride levels are usually checked when you test your cholesterol levels.

Accuracy & Security

Accuracy

Your sample will be analysed at the UK’s top CQC registered labs and will be as accurate as those from your GP. These labs run validation tests on all finger-prick blood samples, before making them available.

Certified labs

Our labs use various monitoring techniques to assure the quality of the data generated to comply with ISO standards for laboratories and the Care Quality Commission.

Frequently asked

You can select any of the blood tests available and order them directly. Alternatively, if you're unsure about which test is right for you, answer a few questions about your health and lifestyle so we can recommend a personalised package for you. You can modify your preference before placing the order.
We work with independent labs accredited by the UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC). They're also trusted by the NHS. You can read more about our Labs here [link to County Pathology]
Your testing kit contains everything you need to do a finger-prick blood test at home. We'll walk you through it with our online guide [link to how to]
We use the latest encryption technologies and comply with the UK Data Protection Act 2018, so your data is in safe hands.
Your results will be available in your Manual account usually 48 after your sample is received by the lab. We'll also send you an email to let you know – so keep an eye on your junk mail.

When the lab have processed your results, one of our clinician will review them and create your report. Then you'll receive an email to let you know your results are available on your Manual dashboard.

There, you can see your results, more information on what each one means, a trend graph for each result, and your reporting GP's comments. As you do more tests, your results will be compared over time — so you can see if your results are changing and what the reasons might be.

Your results are safely stored in your Manual dashboard — so you can view them any time.

Our UKAS compliant labs use various monitoring techniques, including inspections and audits, to promote confidence in laboratory results. This ensures the quality of the data generated and compliance with accrediting bodies, such as Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA).

Our labs run validation on all tests offered before we make them available to you. We collect at least 400uL of blood (about 10 drops). And the lab analysers that test the sample require under 100uL of blood — research papers typically put levels required for accuracy at 60uL.

Of course abnormal results can occur, which is why we advocate regular monitoring rather than snapshot testing.

Your results include your blood test results, as well as context and guidance from a clinician.

If you're having trouble reading or understanding your results, including the graphs, your levels and the commentary, our support team would be happy to help. Please note that we don't look at your results without your explicit permission, so we'll ask you to confirm that it's ok for us to view your results before we can help.

We don't currently offer follow-up or messages. If you feel that the clinician who reviewed your results left you confused, please get in touch and we'll follow up with you as soon as possible (usually within few hours).

No. We don't aim to replace doctors. Our goal is to help empower you to proactively monitor and manage your health.

All tests are reviewed by a qualified clinician, who will provide context and guidance around your results. However these tests should be viewed as a general health check and not as a replacement for any medical advice you may currently be receiving or may receive in the future.

Great service, prompt and timely delivery. Readily available to help in any capacity. Highly recommended.
